STEP 1: Jack the bike up until the rear wheel is suspended in the air. Then measure the vertical distance from the axle to a reference on the rear fender and make a note of that exact measurement as shown below:
STEP 2: Lower the motorcycle to the ground and remove the jack. Load the motorcycle with the typical load (rider, passenger, luggage, etc.).
STEP 3: Once the weight has been added to the motorcycle, with assistance, take a measurement from the same reference points as STEP 1. Sag should be 3/4″ to 1-1/4″. For example, if your first measurement on the jack (STEP 1) was 13-1/2″, the second measurement with weight on the motorcycle should be between 12-1/4″ to 12-3/4″.
STEP 4: If adjustment is necessary, turn the 7/8″ preload adjuster counterclockwise for less sag / fewer preload reference lines exposed or clockwise for more sag / more preload reference lines exposed.
– Make sure both shocks are set to the same preload reference line.
STEP 5: Once the sag is set, adjust the rebound according to the chart below:
– This is a starting point. Test ride and adjust in one-click increments if a change in ride quality is desired.
NOTE: For the best ride quality, you will want to adjust the Sag/Preload anytime you add/take away weight from the bike.
